Outdoor Thongophone

Pock. Pock. Pock. The Outdoor Thongophone is one of those instruments that children pick up, play immediately and never quite want to put down.

Six hollow tubes of different heights stand in a row, each producing a different note when struck with the flat, flappy paddle beater. The sound is warm, satisfying and musical in a way that immediately rewards experimentation. Children discover that longer tubes produce lower notes, shorter tubes produce higher ones, and that with a bit of thought, they can pick out a tune. All of this happens naturally, joyfully and outdoors.
