Whether you've identifying learning styles, organising your room around new learning areas, or adapting your provision to meet new interests or needs, these early weeks of September often see a bit of a classroom rejig. With that, we find, comes a sudden need to reorganise. With all that in mind, we think it's the perfect time to share our favourite ways to approach storage in schools and nurseries, inside and out.

Indoor classroom storage ideas

When considering how you can better organise your classroom, there are two potential scenarios. If you have some budget to buy new furniture, we have some fantastic ranges that really maximise learning opportunity while upping your storage options. If you do not have the budget for larger pieces, we have plenty of ideas, too! Take a look!

If... you have the budget for new furniture

If you are looking for a range of furniture that meets your learner needs, aesthetic needs (we love a neutral) and most importantly, storage needs, you're in the right place! Our range is seriously extensive and covers all ages and requirements. Head to our Furniture Ranges page to see all that we have to offer, from our Flexi-Room options through to the toddler friendly Rookie Range.

If you love the thought of changing things up but are really not sure where to start within your budget, don't fret, we've got an answer! Our room planning service is completely free and can support you in designing the room of your dreams, whether it's a full scope project, or just advice on what furniture options would best suit your cohort. You can even purchase a ready planned set of furniture!

If...you are all spent up and need some inspiration

Whether your budget went back in April, you just need a few tweaks, or you're just looking to up your game without upping your furniture, we have plenty of tips too!

Firstly, maximise what you have. If you have cupboards, do a good clean out and marvel at the phonics resources you still have from 2001, then clear them out! You'll be surprised how much space you have once you reduce old and tired resources. Next, consider how you can better utilise the space you have. Back of the door storage wallets are a great way to up your storage, while underneath tables can be a great way to store ad hoc resources.

Next, if you do need some further storage but aren't ready to invest in a full unit, try going modular. Our modular storage squares are a great way to add ad hoc storage for books, bookbags or other resources, and you can get as many or as a few as you need! While our storage squares are ready-designed for school use, you may be able to find similar options secondhand, too. Our coloured crate storage seats offer a similar option while doubling up as seating, too.

Outdoor classroom storage ideas

Curriculum Sheds

When it comes to outdoor storage, you may have heard us mention we quite like sheds! Yes, our Cosy Curriculum Sheds are an absolute staple when it comes to organising your outdoor classroom. We think they're particularly brilliant if you are looking to enhance a focal area of the curriculum, such as writing, reading or maths. Our subject specific sheds are designed with typical curriculum resources in mind, so whether you're looking to enhance your reading provision or add maths opportunities to self-led play, a curriculum shed is a brilliant way to start. Head to our Ultimate Shed Guide to read all about our different options and get some guidance on which shed is right for you.

Clever hidden storage options

Sometimes you want more storage, but you simple don't have the square footage. No problem! Many of our large outdoor learning resources double as storage and organisation options, maximising your budget and minimising space usage. Our storage bench offers the perfect spot to take a seat and enjoy a snack, and opens up beneath to hold books, maths equipment and much more. Why not use up the space beneath a tuff spot, too, with our tuff spot tray wooden shelves?

Long Last Storage Options

If a shed doesn't quite fit your needs, why not consider one of our clever salt bins to store your outdoor resources? Taking up minimal floor space and with a high capacity, sit them near a fence and attach elastic to the fence so that they can be hooked around the lid to keep it open when in use. A great option and highly waterproof!

Create your own!

While we may be biased towards our sheds, please know there are lots of brilliant alternative options to work on your outdoor classroom organisation. The great benefit of being outdoors is the option for quick, ad-hoc storage options from classic outdoor materials. So, wooden crates are a great option for storing books, H crates can double as storage and seating, and many of our shelving units can double as play and storage outdoors.
