We walked away from this idea last year as too expensive, since then we've seen very very expensive ones in the market and Alfreton nursery school had used the sample so nicely we thought we'd return to it. It comes unpainted so you can paint it to fit your colour scheme - use chalkboard paint. Why not glue a bit of lino or carpet on the bottom to stop scratches (An Alfreton idea).
